Utah does not have a separate probate court. The district court has jurisdiction over adoption, estate, and mental health matters. This court allows jury trials in most case types.
The juvenile court has exclusive original jurisdiction over minors who violate the law, and over abuse/neglect and dependency. The court also has the power to determine custody, support, and visitation; termination of parental rights; and order treatment for mentally ill children. Juvenile court does not allow jury trials.
Utah has a well-developed probate mediation program.
