Task Force on Preservation of the Justice System

"We have a tragedy taking place in our courts," attorney and NCSC Board member Ted Olson told an audience May 1 at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., referring to severe budget cuts to state courts.

Olson, members of the ABA Task Force on Preservation of the Justice System, NCSC President Mary McQueen and D.C. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Eric Washington, who chairs the NCSC Board, participated in the Law Day press conference to call attention to the serious underfunding of state courts and to mobilize support for them.

On April 16, the California chief justice and senators, along with co-chairs of the ABA Task Force on the Preservation of the Justice System, held a press conference and hearing in Sacramento, addressing the decline in public access to the justice system brought on by severe budget cuts.
