Law school dean inducted into Warren E. Burger Society

Williamsburg, Va., Nov. 20, 2019 — Andrew M. Perlman, dean and professor of law at the Suffolk University Law School, is being inducted into the National Center for State Courts’ Warren E. Burger Society.

The Burger Society honors individuals who have used their time, talent, and support to the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) in exceptional ways. It is named for the former chief justice of the United States who helped found NCSC in 1971. The induction ceremony takes place Nov. 21 in Washington, D.C.

Perlman is a nationally recognized voice on the future of legal education and the practice of law and has advised the American Bar Association as well as NCSC.

He served as the chief reporter of the ABA’s Commission on Ethics 20/20, which was responsible for updating the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct to reflect changes in technology and increased globalization. He also served as the vice chair of the ABA Commission on the Future of Legal Services, which produced recommendations designed to improve how legal services are delivered and accessed. Most recently, he was chair of the governing council of the ABA’s new Center for Innovation. In 2015, FastCase recognized him as one of 50 “entrepreneurs, innovators, and trailblazers… who have charted a new course for the delivery of legal services.”

The National Center for State Courts, headquartered in Williamsburg, Va., is a nonprofit court organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice by providing leadership and service to the state courts. Founded in 1971 by the Conference of Chief Justices and Chief Justice of the United States Warren E. Burger, NCSC provides education, training, technology, management, and research services to the nation’s state courts.
