The Council of Language Access Coordinators (CLAC) convened on April 21-24, 2013, in Salem, Massachusetts for their inaugural conference. The conference brought together language access managers, program managers and court professionals from across the country to share ideas, and focus on topics such as training in language access; remote video interpreting; adult and multi-cultural learning; grant funding; data collection; mentoring of managers and interpreters; certification of interpreters; test administration fundamentals; and translation of documents.
The keynote speaker was Chief Judge Eric T. Washington of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. He shared inspirational remarks regarding the importance of equal access to the courts for all in one multi-cultural country. He emphasized that the courts cannot properly administer justice without language access as one of their top priority core functions.
The Conference was hosted by the National Center for State Courts.
