Arkansas

§ 16-13-506. Court Reporters -- Transcript Fees . Arkansas Code Amended (2008).
(a)(1)When required to make a transcript of court proceedings, each court reporter of the circuit courts shall be entitled to compensation at the rate of four dollars and ten cents ($4.10) per page for the original and two (2) copies and at the rate of fifty cents (50¢) per page for each additional copy.

(2)When required to prepare photocopied evidence as part of a transcript, each reporter shall be entitled to compensation at the rate of one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) per page, for an original and two (2) copies and at the rate of fifty cents (50¢) per page for each additional copy thereafter, with the cost to be paid by the parties ordering transcripts.

(b)(1)(A)In indigent and in forma pauperis proceedings, the compensation to the court reporter for transcripts provided for in subsection (a) of this section shall be paid by the State of Arkansas.

(B)However, in such proceedings, the court reporters shall be entitled to compensation from the state only for the original and two (2) copies of the transcript.

Colorado

Connecticut

$3.00 per page ($1.50 per page for state officials and other entities listed in C.G.S. §51-63(c)), provided the charge to any such party or other individual shall be $1.75 for each page for which a charge of $3.00 already has been made. Delaware

The transcript rate is $3.78 per page and includes two copies of each page. The transcript copy rate is $1.51 per page. The rate for each exhibit page is $0.35 per page. Hawaii

Idaho

1-1105(2) – Copy of Record -- Effect -- Charge for Furnishing. Idaho Code (2008).
(2) That in all actions such reporter shall charge and receive, and retain as provided in subsection 1. of this section, three dollars and twenty-five cents ($3.25) per page for the transcript to be prepared in the style and with the number of copies as directed by rule of the supreme court; provided, however, that when such transcript is requested by a defendant or his attorney on an appeal in a criminal action where after conviction, it appears to the satisfaction of the district court that the accused is poor and unable to procure such transcript, the court must direct payment to such court reporter of the page charge in this subsection provided, from the county treasury.

Kansas

Rule 10(A) The rate for official district court transcripts shall be $2.75 for each 25-line page of the original transcript and $0.50 for each 25-line page of a copy of the original transcript if copies are ordered. Effective January 1, 2008, the rate for official district court transcripts shall be $3.00 for each 25-line page of the original transcript. Effective January 1, 2010, the rate for official district court transcripts shall be $3.25 for each 25-line page of the original transcript. Maine

Massachusetts

Regular transcripts cost $3.00 per page for the original and $1.00 per page for copies. Daily transcripts cost $4.50 per page for the original and $1.50 for copies. Michigan

600.2543. Circuit Court Reporters or Recorders; fees for transcripts; fees as part of taxable costs. Michigan Compiled Laws (2009).

(1) The circuit court reporters or recorders are entitled to demand and receive per page for a transcript ordered by any person the sum of $1.75 per original page and 30 cents per page for each copy, unless a lower rate is agreed upon. For a transcript ordered by the circuit judge, reporters or recorders are entitled to receive from the county the same compensation. The supreme court, by administrative order or court rule, may authorize the payment to circuit court reporters or recorders the sum of $3.00 per original page and 50 cents per page for each copy for transcripts ordered and timely filed as part of a program of differentiated case management for appeals of civil cases in which the circuit court either grants or denies summary disposition. If a transcript ordered under a program of differentiated case management is not timely filed, the circuit court reporter or recorder is not entitled to receive the increased rate for that transcript.

Minnesota

486.06. Charge for Transcripts . Minnesota Statutes (2008).
In addition to the salary set in section 486.05 , the court reporter may charge for a transcript of a record ordered by any person other than the judge 50 cents per original folio thereof and ten cents per folio for each manifold or other copy thereof when so ordered that it can be made with the original transcript. The chief judge of the judicial district may by order establish new transcript fee ceilings annually.

A court reporter may impose a fee authorized under this section only if the transcript is delivered to the person who ordered it within a reasonable time after it was ordered.

Montana

3-5-604. Court reporters -- transcript of proceedings – costs. Montana Code Annotated (2007).
(1) Each court reporter shall furnish, upon request, with all reasonable diligence, to a party or a party's attorney in a case in which the court reporter has attended the trial or hearing a transcript from stenographic notes of the testimony and proceedings of the trial or hearing or a part of a trial or hearing upon payment by the person requiring the transcript of $2 a page for the original transcript, 50 cents a page for the first copy, and 25 cents a page for each additional copy, except as otherwise provided in this section.

(2) If the court reporter is not entitled to retain transcription fees under 3-5-601, the transcription fees required by subsection (1) must be paid to the clerk of district court who shall forward the amount to the department of revenue for deposit in the state general fund.

(3) (a) If the county attorney, attorney general, or judge requires a transcript in a criminal case, the reporter shall furnish it. The transcription fee must be paid by the office of court administrator as provided in 3-5-901.
     (b) If the judge requires a copy in a civil case to assist in rendering a decision, the reporter shall furnish the copy without charge.
     (c) In civil cases, all transcripts required by the county must be furnished and only the reporter's actual costs of preparation may be paid by the county.

(4) (a) If a public defender, as defined in 47-1-103, requests a transcript, the transcript must be furnished to the public defender and paid for by the state office of public defender, as provided in 47-1-201.
     (b) If an indigent party is eligible for a public defender but is acting pro se and requests a transcript, the transcript must be furnished to the party and paid for by the office of court administrator, as provided in 3-5-901. (updated 7/8/09)

Nebraska

1-218. Per-Page Compensation. Nebraska Supreme Court Rules (2008).
Effective June 8, 2005, the per-page fee to which a court reporter is entitled, as prescribed by the Supreme Court pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. § 25-1140.09, shall be $3.25 per page for an original copy of a bill of exceptions and 50 cents per page for each additional copy, with numbering to begin with the cover page. Nevada

NRS 3.370. Official Reporter: Compensation. Nevada Revised Statutes (2007).
(c) For transcription:
(1) Except as otherwise provided in subparagraph (2), for the original draft and any copy to be delivered:
(I) Within 24 hours after it is requested, $7.50 per page for the original draft and one copy, and $2 per page for each additional copy;
(II) Within 48 hours after it is requested, $5.62 per page for the original draft and one copy, and $1.50 per page for each additional copy;
(III) Within 4 days after it is requested, $4.68 per page for the original draft and one copy, and $1.25 per page for each additional copy; or
(IV) More than 4 days after it is requested, $3.55 per page for the original draft and one copy, and 55 cents per page for each additional copy.

(2) For civil litigants who are ordering the original draft and are represented by a nonprofit legal corporation or a program for pro bono legal assistance, for the original draft and any copy to be delivered:
(I) Within 24 hours after it is requested, $5.50 per page and $1.10 per page for each additional copy;
(II) Within 48 hours after it is requested, $4.13 per page and 83 cents per page for each additional copy;
(III) Within 4 days after it is requested, $3.44 per page and 69 cents per page for each additional copy; or
(IV) More than 4 days after it is requested, $2.75 per page and 55 cents per page for each additional copy.

(3) For any party other than the party ordering the original draft, for the copy of the draft to be delivered:
(I) Within 24 hours after it is requested, $1.10 per page;
(II) Within 48 hours after it is requested, 83 cents per page;
(III) Within 4 days after it is requested, 69 cents per page; or
(IV) More than 4 days after it is requested, 55 cents per page.

New Hampshire

Supreme Court of New Hampshire Order (August 29, 2008).

New Jersey

2B:7-4. Transcript; fees . New Jersey Annotated Statutes (2009).
Transcript rates are $3.00 for each page of an original standard delivery transcript and $0.50 for each of the copies.

New Jersey has established an annual transcript rate adjustment to reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as follows: the foregoing fees and rates shall be multiplied by a fraction, the denominator of which shall be the CPI for March 2000 and the numerator of which shall be the CPI for the March immediately preceding the applicable July 1.

North Dakota

Oklahoma

106.4. Duties of reporter--Methods—Transcripts . Oklahoma Statutes, Annotated (2009).
B. Upon request of either party in a civil or criminal case, the reporter shall transcribe the proceedings in a trial or other judicial proceeding, or so much thereof as may be requested by the party, certify to the correctness of the transcript, and deliver the same in accordance with the rules of the Supreme Court. The fee for an original transcript shall be Three Dollars and fifty cents ($ 3.50) per page. Two copies of the original transcript shall be furnished without additional charge. Each page shall be at least twenty-five lines to the page and typed no fewer than nine characters to the typed inch. Each page shall be no more than double spaced and the margin on the left side of the page shall be no more than one and one-half (1 1/2) inches and the margin on the right side of the page shall be no more than one-half (1/2) inch from the edge of the paper. The format for all transcripts shall be prescribed by the Supreme Court. The fees for making the transcript shall be paid in the first instance by the party requesting the transcript and shall be taxed as costs in the suit.

When the judge on his or her own motion orders a transcript of the reporter's notes, the judge may direct the payment of charges and the taxation of the charges as costs in such manner as the court deems appropriate. In a criminal action, if the defendant shall present to the judge an affidavit that the defendant intends in good faith to take an appeal in the case and that a transcript of the reporter's notes is necessary to enable the defendant to prosecute the appeal, and that he or she has not the means to pay for the transcript, the court, upon finding that there is reasonable basis for the averment, shall order the transcript made at the expense of the district court fund. The format preparation, delivery and filing of transcripts to be used in civil and criminal appeals may be regulated by the Supreme Court. (updated 7/8/09)

Pennsylvania

Rule 5000.7. Fees for Transcript. Pennsylvania Code (2009).
The transcript rate is $1.25 per page of original typescript; except where a court or county provides all the copies, then the rate shall be not in excess of $2.00 per page of original typescript. The transcript copy rate is $0.30 per page for any complete and legible copy, if made at the reporter’s own expense. A reporter who uses an electronic audio recording device from which the transcript is made shall be paid at a rate of $0.25 per page of original typescript.

South Carolina

South Dakota

15-15-7. Transcript fee. South Dakota Statutes Annotated (2009). Title 15, Civil Procedure.

Unless ordered by the court to be supplied to an indigent or an indigent's counsel and paid out of the county treasury where court was held, a fee shall be charged to the person ordering a typewritten transcript by filing of an order for transcript on appeal of a proceeding taken by an officer of the court, which shall be certified to be a correct transcript of the reporter's notes of the evidence, at the rate of three dollars per page for the original. The fee for a copy, furnished on request, is forty cents per page, to be paid to the officer of the court who prepared the transcript. (updated 7/8/09)

Utah

72A-2-408. Transcripts and copies -- Fees -- Establishment of Court Reporting Technology Account. Utah Code (2008).
(1) The Judicial Council shall by rule provide for a standard page format for transcripts of court hearings.
(2) (a) The fee for a transcript of a court session, or any part of a court session, shall be $3.50 per page, which includes the initial preparation of the transcript and one certified copy. The preparer shall deposit the original transcript with the clerk of the court and provide the person requesting the transcript with the certified copy. The cost of additional copies shall be as provided in Subsection 78A-2-301(1). The transcript for an appeal shall be prepared within the time period permitted by the rules of Appellate Procedure. The fee for a transcript prepared within three business days of the request shall be 1-1/2 times the base rate. The fee for a transcript prepared within one business day of the request shall be double the base rate. (updated 7/8/09)

Wisconsin

814.69 Fees of court reporters; transcripts. Wisconsin Annotated Statutes (2008).
(1) A court reporter shall collect the following fees:
(a) For a transcript under SCR 71.04, a fee at the rate of $1.50 per 25−line page for the original and 50 cents per 25−line page for the duplicate. Except as provided in s. 967.06 (3), the fee shall be paid by the county treasurer upon the certificate of the clerk of court.

(b) For a transcript under s. 757.57 (5), a fee from the party requesting the transcript at the rate of $2.25 per 25−line page for the original and 50 cents per 25−line page for each copy. If the request is by the state or any political subdivision thereof, the fees of the reporter shall be at the rates provided in par. (a).

(bm) If a party requests that a transcript under s. 757.57 (5) be prepared within 7 days after the request and the transcript is not required by supreme court rule or statute to be prepared within that 7−day period, a fee in addition to the fee under par. (b) of 75 cents per 25−line page for the original and 25 cents for each copy. The fee under this paragraph does not apply to a request made by the state or a political subdivision of the state.

(c) A reporter may make a special charge, pursuant to arrangement with the party requesting the same, for furnishing typewritten transcripts of testimony and proceedings from day to day during the progress of any trial or proceeding.

(d) For purposes of this section, a page other than the final page of a transcript shall consist of any 25 or more consecutive typewritten lines, double−spaced, on paper not less than 8 1/2 inches in width, with a margin of not more than 1 1/2 inches on the left and five−eighths of an inch on the right, exclusive of lines disclosing page numbering; type shall be standard pica with 10 letters to the inch. Questions and answers shall each begin a new line. Indentations for speakers or paragraphs shall be not more than 15 spaces from the left margin.
