Nuts & Bolts Workshop An implementation workshop will be held in Phoenix, Arizona on January 18-19, 2018 on the the nuts and bolts of civil justice reform. The workshop is led by experienced trial judges and court administrators who have implemented the CCJ Civil Justice recommendations in their own courts.
Automated Civil Triage Tool This paper describes a preliminary attempt to use CMS data to automatically triage civil cases into an appropriate case management pathway as recommended by the CJI Committee.

Summary from the Western Summit The following states sent attendees to the CCJ/COSCA Western Region Civil Justice Reform Summit in May of 2017: Arizona, Alaska, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Some of the more easily obtainable reforms these states identified include: judicial education, creating/improving forms, and creating pathway approaches where cases are placed in tiers that have presumptive discovery limits.

New York Times Article on Student Debt Collection Student debt collectors are flooding courts with collection cases without reviewing the underlying paperwork. Some judges are starting to raise questions about these cases. The Consumer Protection Financial Bureau filed actions against the debt collection group, Transworld Systems and its single client, the National Collegiate Student Loan Trusts.
