NCSC President Mary McQueen honored with ABA’s John Marshall Award

Williamsburg, Va. (June 30, 2014) -- Mary Campbell McQueen, president of the National Center for State Courts, has been awarded the 2014 John Marshall Award, presented by the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Judicial Division, Standing Committee on Judicial Independence and Standing Committee on Federal Judicial Improvements.  The award recognizes an individual who has made a positive national impact on the justice system.  McQueen will be presented with the award at the ABA’s Annual Meeting in Boston on Friday, August 8, 2014.

“Mary’s tireless efforts to improve the administration of justice have made the state courts more effective, efficient and accountable,” said Chief Justice Michael G. Heavican of Nebraska, Chair of the Board of Directors of the National Center for State Courts.  “We are proud of her for this award, and congratulate her for the well-deserved recognition.”

Prior recipients include U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, the late U.S. Sen. Howell Heflin of Alabama and former Gov. Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania.

McQueen has served as president of the National Center for State Courts since 2004, and previously worked for 25 years as the Washington State Court administrator and Director of Judicial Services for the Washington State Office of the Administrator for the Courts.  McQueen holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a JD from Seattle University Law School.
