Former diplomat and NCSC board member inducted into Warren E. Burger Society

Williamsburg, Va., Nov. 20, 2019 – Alphonse F. La Porta, a retired diplomat and former National Center for State Courts’ (NCSC) board member, is being inducted into NCSC’s Warren E. Burger Society.

The Burger Society honors individuals who have used their time, talent, and support to NCSC in exceptional ways. It is named for the former chief justice of the United States who helped found NCSC in 1971. The induction ceremony takes place Nov. 21 in Washington, D.C.

La Porta served throughout the world during his 38-year career in the diplomatic corps, including U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia from 1997-2000. He also served as president of the American Foreign Service Association.

He served for six years on NCSC’s Board of Directors, advising the International Division. He continues to serve on the division’s advisory committee. His exceptional background and experience have proven invaluable to NCSC.

La Porta also serves as a consultant to the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and the Joint Staff training division. The National Center for State Courts, headquartered in Williamsburg, Va., is a nonprofit court organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice by providing leadership and service to the state courts. Founded in 1971 by the Conference of Chief Justices and Chief Justice of the United States Warren E. Burger, NCSC provides education, training, technology, management, and research services to the nation’s state courts.
