Description | A financial sanction is the most common type of sanction imposed by a court. The ability to pay court fines and fees can present barriers to ensuring equal justice for all. This two-part series, “Financial Sanctions Reform,” discusses how community relationships and the ability to impose sanctions based on the ability to pay and other approaches to payment can promote fair justice. This first session, “Cost & fines: How a community conversation changed lives in the Ocean State,” will demonstrate how the power of strong community partnerships and “off the bench” direct engagement can drive reform, bridge the trust gap between judicial officers and court users and change lives. This interactive session will highlight Rhode Island’s unprecedented “Cost & Fines” statewide initiative, lessons learned from the pilot program and practical tools and resources that participants can use to launch a similar program in their respective state or jurisdictions. This webinar is presented by the Blueprint for Racial Justice Systemic Change work group. Register for the April 13 webinar today! Future sessions include: Panelists:
