Practice Examination Kits

The Technical Committee of the former Consortium for Language Access in the Courts developed two Practice Examination Kits for interpreters who are preparing to sit for a state court interpreter oral examination. These Practice Examination Kits are available for purchase from the National Center for State Courts.

Be sure to carefully read the descriptions below, prior to making a purchase, to determine which Practice Examination Kit is the most appropriate for you:

Practice Examination Kit in Spanish

The Practice Examination Kit in Spanish is for interpreters who are preparing to sit for a state court interpreter oral examination in Spanish. The Practice Examination Kit in Spanish, which consists of a downloadable pdf manual and a separate folder with .mp3 audio files, contains a practice oral examination in Spanish. The manual provides step-by-step instructions for how to administer the practice examination to yourself. The manual also contains instructions on how to score your practice examination and samples for creating a scoring dictionary. There is also an additional .mp3 file included with an example of a passing performance on the practice oral examination in Spanish.

Practice Examination Kit in English

The Practice Examination Kit in English is for interpreters who are preparing to sit for a state court interpreter oral examination in a language other than Spanish, The Practice Examination Kit in English, which consists of a downloadable pdf manual and a separate folder with .mp3 audio files, contains a practice oral examination in English (only). The manual provides step-by-step instructions for how to administer the practice examination to yourself. The manual also contains instructions on how to score your practice examination and samples for creating a scoring dictionary. The practice examination materials are all in English so that this kit can be used by interpreters of any language. (Please note that an actual state court interpreter oral examination would not be in English (only); it would contain both English and the non-English language. However, the Practice Examination Kit in English provides guidance on translating portions of the Sight Translation and Consecutive sections into a non-English language in order to more closely approximate a state court interpreter oral examination.)
