A case could be designated one of three tracks. 
Fast Track
Average Track
Accelerated Track
Depending on which track it is designated is the time it will take to complete the trial.

Track A:
- From arraignment to Pretrial Hearing date: Not more than 45 days;

- From Pretrial Hearing to Motion/Compliance/Election date: Not more than 45 days;

- From Motion/Compliance/Election date to Trial date: Not more than 45 days.

Track B:
- From Arraignment to Pretrial Hearing date: Not more than 45 days;

- From Pretrial Hearing to Motion/Compliance/Election date: Not more than 60 days;

- From Motion/Compliance/Election to Trial date: Not more than 90 days.

In 2006, Massachusetts undertook a major initiative aimed at making improvements in the timely disposition of cases.  As noted above, time standards had been established for all departments.  Massachusetts adopted the four CourTools metrics on timeliness and expedition, which had been developed by the National Center for State Courts, as common performance measures.  For each of the four CourTools metrics, the state set common goals across all court departments.  And, Massachusetts produced quarterly reports and an annual report to document progress toward reaching the goals.  Below is a link to the annual report on metrics:
