The meeting on October 27 and 28, 2010, marked the fourth Symposium, which was first convened in 1981 to reflect upon the progress and anticipate the challenges of administering and managing state courts.

The 2010 symposium focused on managing the business of courts – their essential functions; organizational structure and governance; and the challenge for today and tomorrow.
It is hoped that this website, www.ncsc.org/4thsymposium, will serve as a one-stop online archive of publications and presentation materials for re-use at future court association workshops.
The Symposium is sponsored by the State Justice Institute and the Bureau of Justice Assistance and hosted by the National Center for State Courts. Attendance was limited and by invitation only.
