Interpreter Statutes and Rules: Chief Justice Directive 06-03 and 05-05.

Coordination/Supervision of InterpretersRegionally by managing interpreters with policy guidance, resources, and other information provided by the Office of Language Access. 

Cost of Interpreter Services (including fees to freelance and salaries of staff interpreters): Approximately $6,000,000 annually

Funding for Language Access Program: The Office of Language Access receives funding from the legislature through a line item in the Colorado Judicial Department’s annual appropriation.

Compensation Range for Salaried Interpreters (spoken language)Staff Interpreters $4,797 - $6,639/month; Managing Interpreters $5,385 - $7,454

Compensation Range for Salaried Interpreters (sign Language): Please contact the Colorado Commission for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind for information regarding sign language interpreters.

Compensation Range for Freelance Interpreters (certified spoken language): $55/hour for Spanish; and $65/hour for Languages Other than Spanish

Difference in Pay between Spanish and LOTS Interpreters: Independent Contractor Spanish Interpreters earn $55/hour.  Independent Contractors LOTS interpreters can earn anywhere from up to $45 to $65/hour.

Minimum Certification Requirements: People interested in becoming an interpreter must attend Orientation, pass the Written Exam with an 80% score, and, based on the language they speak, take an Oral Proficiency Interview or the Oral Exam.
