Kentucky Profile

KENTUCKY

Kentucky is the first state to conduct a statewide Upstream Mapping Workshop. The Kentucky Judicial Commission on Mental Health supported implementing Upstream across the state to identify existing resources and opportunities to focus their work. The statewide Mapping Workshop presented an opportunity to coordinate Kentucky's many initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for children and families. A child welfare-focused statewide mapping took place in August 2023 with more than 80 participants representing court professionals, child welfare agencies, behavioral health organizations, and individuals with lived experience. The state also engaged in a virtual statewide Upstream Mapping Workshop focused on the juvenile justice system. The action plans related to the priorities identified during the mapping workshops will be incorporated into the future work of the Kentucky Judicial Commission on Mental Health.

In 2024, Kentucky will participate in an Upstream train-the-facilitator event and prepare facilitators for conducting Upstream Mapping Workshops throughout the state.
