Kansas City, Missouri: Incentives

Broadening Representation

Mindful that traditional policy making is often exclusive to “elites,” the Kansas City team provided several incentives to attract broad participation from community members.

  • Those who completed court user surveys at the municipal courthouse received restaurant coupons and small gifts, such as a pencil that looked like a gavel.
  • A complimentary meal was served at both the adult and high school youth engagement sessions.
  • The team provided a $25 gift card to all participants who completed a set of pre- and post-surveys.
  • The team advertised the presence of Spanish language interpreters at all engagement sessions.
