Engagement Planning Partners
Court actors and stakeholders assisting with planning the engagements included:
- Three district court judges (one from each target community) and one criminal court judge from Harris County (Houston)
- Legal professionals from the Harris County (Houston) District Court Clerk’s Office
- Attorneys from the Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid office, which serves Alpine and Brownsville
- An attorney and expert consultant on Spanish-English language legal translation from the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley
Pre-engagement Activities
Prior to each community event, the Texas team reached out to judges, court actors, and other professionals and stakeholders to plan for the engagement sessions, identify local issues of concern, and plan for their involvement. The Texas team reached out to local court actors and community representatives by phone and through in-person meetings. Local stakeholders provided insights about community issues specific to these local jurisdictions and recommendations for outreach and meeting venues.
