Nebraska Engagement: Information Presentation

Nebraska Agenda

Nebraska used a simple agenda in which the bulk of the time was focused on discussion. To prompt discussion, the team projected some potential topics for discussion on a large screen.  People viewed these topics at the beginning of the event as they were eating their meals

1. Welcome
2. Prayer & Meal
3. Know Your Rights presentation (30 minutes)
4. What is the Consortium? (5 minutes)
5. Discussion (2 hours)
6. Closing remarks

Background Information

At the beginning of its community engagement activities, the Nebraska team presented information to participants about the Nebraska Consortium of Tribal, State, and Federal Courts, and a representative from Legal Aid of Nebraska provided an overview of individuals’ basic rights and responsibilities within the legal system. In this way, the Nebraska public engagement project was not only asking for information from the community, but also providing information that participants might find useful.

  • What is the Consortium? Judges from the Nebraska Consortium of Tribal, State, and Federal Courts provided a brief overview of their history and activities.
  • Know Your Rights. A representative from Legal Aid of Nebraska provided an overview of basic rights, responsibilities, and procedures relevant to the legal system, and legal aid services available to Native Americans and the public generally.
