Eviction Diversion Initiative reimagines housing court
We're helping housing courts improve their processes to better meet community needs and create lasting solutions.

Transforming court approaches to housing stability
Building on best practices established during the pandemic, our Eviction Diversion Initiative (EDI) is a four-year, $11.5 million grant program designed to help courts improve their eviction processes and create lasting community-driven solutions.
The EDI helps fund the hiring of dedicated staff members to develop new programs or enhance existing ones to reduce eviction filings and mitigate their impact. So far, 24 courts have joined this innovative initiative to transform housing courts into places of support and collaboration. Our 2024 report, "Reimagining Housing Court: A Framework for Court-Based Eviction Diversion," details our success to date.
The assistance provided by NCSC has proven invaluable as we build a program from the ground up. NCSC supports a highly responsive network of EDI program leaders who further one another's success through shared experiences, research, learning, and materials.

Our impact
The Eviction Diversion Initiative Advisory Council selected 22 state and local courts to participate in the EDI.
The courtroom must be a place of fairness and impartial application of the law, but it can also be a place of innovation and collaboration. I am grateful for the Eviction Diversion Initiative, as it provides another fair and legal mechanism for property owners, tenants, and community partners to work together in constructive ways.
