Court technology standards
Frameworks, standards, and best practices guiding court technology.
JTC recommends certain technology standards for use by courts. Approved standards provide common functional and technical requirements to ensure that solutions, whether developed by vendors or the courts themselves, meet the needs of courts. Standards aim to foster interoperability, reduce costs, and stimulate innovation.
Guardianship standards
Guardianship standards help courts work with vendors to create case management systems (CMS) that are designed specifically to monitor guardianship cases. Most systems are designed to track cases from filing to disposition, which is different than guardianship and conservatorship cases that can exist for many years. Created by a JTC working group, these CMS standards can be included when purchasing, building, or upgrading a system for tracking guardianships and conservatorships. The standards were developed in partnership with the Guardianship & Technology Project, a collaboration between NCSC, the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging, and the National Disability Rights Network that was funded by the State Justice Institute.
Our technology standards approval process
Concept
A JTC working group reviews and vets ideas for a standard, paper, guidelines, etc.
Development
The working group conducts development activities and drafts a work product.
Review
The work product is shared for public review, feedback is processed, and a standard is recommended.
Adoption
The recommended standard is submitted to the Conference of State Court Administrators and National Association for Court Management boards for adoption.
Evaluation
Once adopted, the standard is subject to review and feedback before the standard is implemented.
