Building future ready courts
"If courts are to fully embrace the need for transformative change in their administrative and procedural functions, they need to build and sustain the capacity to better anticipate potential changes in the future and identify options for innovation, adaptation, and modernization."
– Just Horizons, 2022
What is the Future Ready Courts (FRC) framework?
The Future Ready Courts framework expands traditional strategic planning by incorporating a rigorous focus on the future. Building on our Just Horizons work, this framework includes three sets of activities that encourage courts to proactively monitor and respond to external drivers of change and emerging trends as part of their strategic planning process.
To learn more, explore our Future Ready Courts toolbox. It provides an overview of the framework, suggestions for using it, and links to the three sets of activities outlined in the framework below. The toolbox's additional resources also include a description of adapting the foresight exercises to explore a single issue or challenge facing the court for use in a workshop or retreat.
The guide and toolbox were developed under grant number SJI-23-P-042 from the State Justice Institute. The points of view expressed are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the official position or policies of the State Justice Institute.
