Our initiatives

Sandra Day O'Connor Award for the Advancement of Civics Education
Recognizing an organization, court, program or individual who has promoted, inspired, improved or led an innovation or accomplishment in the field of civics education related to the justice system. Our 2024 recipient was the Nebraska State Bar Foundation.

Civics Education Essay Contest
Each year, we invite students in grades 3-12 to participate in our annual Civics Education Essay Contest to promote civics education and inspire students to explore the principles of U.S. government.

Beyond Civics Education guide
A new strategy for courts to connect with their communities that goes beyond traditional approaches like civics education programs and courthouse tours and focuses on understanding and addressing concerns from lived experiences.
We're learning that focusing on civics education as the only solution to the public trust crisis is not a sustainable strategy. We must engage with communities to highlight the central role of state courts in providing justice.

Build your public relations skills
Our Institute for Court Management course in public relations provides specialized training to enhance your court communication strategies. Included in this course is a section on community engagement and civics education programs.
